Lowrance SplitShot Vs. TripleShot Transducer (2024)

When first starting out, finding a good location to fish can prove to be very difficult. To overcome this possible issue, the best thing would be to invest in a fish finder.

A fish finder helps to detect fish schools and provides other underwater information.

The part of a fish finder that is responsible for providing that information is a transducer. One of the best fish finders available today is the Lowrance Hook.

It comes with two transducers, the SplitShot, and the TripleShot. The main difference between them lies in the number of different functions they can provide for you.

Key Differences Between Lowrance SplitShot And TripleShot

The thing that is responsible for transmitting this information to the fish finder is a transducer. The transducer does so by sending out different energy waves underwater.

Then, it receives the echo and displays all the information gotten to your fish finder’s screen.

After going through the comparison table, you should have a pretty good idea about all the many characteristics and differences between the two different fish finder transducers.

Now, let’s go a bit more in-depth into the characteristics of the transducers and really break down and analyze each different characteristic of the Lowrance SplitShot and TripleShot transducers separately.

  • Number of Functions Provided By Each Transducer

This area is where the Lowrance SplitShot and transducers differ the most.

The SplitShot transducers by Lowrance come equipped with two different functions. They are High CHIRP sonar and DownScan imaging.

On the other hand, compared to the SplitShot transducer, the TripleShot transducer by Lowrance comes equipped with an extra function that SplitShot transducers do not have, bringing its total functions to 3.

The TripleShot transducers have High CHIRP wide-angle sonar, SideScan, and DownScan imaging.

  • Materials In The Package of Each Transducer

If you purchase a SplitShot transducer by Lowrance, you can expect the following items in the package- Power cable, FUSE-1 set of 3×3 SplitShot transom bracket, SplitShot skimmer transducer, and corner clips.

On the other hand, a TripleShot transducer package comes with the following items- Power cable, TripleShot transom bracket, TripleShot skimmer transducer, and corner clips.

  • Number of Screen Sizes Available For Each Transducer

Both the SplitShot and TripleShot transducers also differ from each other when we compare the number of different screen sizes available for each.

SplitShot transducers by Lowrance are available for purchase in two different screen sizes.

The two sizes you can buy a SplitShot in are 5 inches and 7 inches.

On the other hand, TripleShot transducers by Lowrance can be bought in three different screen sizes.

They are 7 inches, 9 inches, and 12 inches.

The reason TripleShot transducers have bigger screens is that they have more things to display compared to a SplitShot transducer.

  • Map Options Available For Each Transducer

When it comes to the different map options available for both the SplitShot and TripleShot transducers, there are no differences between them.

Both the SplitShot and TripleShot transducers come equipped with one of five different map options.

The five options are, 4,000 US lake map, GPS only, no GPS, preloaded base map, and US/CAN Nav+.

  • Key Features of Each Transducer

The SplitShot and TripleShot transducers by Lowrance also differ a bit from each other if we compare their individual key features.

The SplitShot transducers have the following key features-

  • High-resolution, SolarMAX display.
  • Autotuning sonar.
  • Double the CHIRP sonar coverage of most fish finders.
  • Broadband Sounder, High CHIRP, and DownScan Imaging™ sonar options.
  • Basic GPS navigation options.
  • Preloaded C-MAP US Inland Mapping or C-MAP® US Coastal mapping if you purchase one with those map options.

Compared to those, the TripleShot transducers have the following key features-

  • High-resolution, SolarMAX display.
  • Autotuning sonar.
  • Double the CHIRP sonar coverage of most fish finders.
  • Broadband Sounder, High CHIRP, SideScan, and DownScan Imaging™ sonar options.
  • Basic GPS navigation options.
  • Preloaded C-MAP US Inland Mapping or C-MAP® US Coastal mapping if you purchase one with those map options.

Thank you for the post. We have a Hook 2 that came with the TripleShot transducer. However, due to the elongated length of the unit, the marina forklift could not see it under water as they put the forks in and under the boat to lift it out and they have broken off two of the TripleShot transducers. This was getting too expensive.
So, after consulting with the Lowrance Help Desk, I ordered the SplitShot transducer that is only 5 inches long. After more than two seasons it has not been damaged. We fish Lake MI where there is very little if any structure. We do not use the side-scan or down-scan features of the Hook2.
Question- our Lowrance now reads water depth that is 3.5 feet deeper than actual. In low water conditions I’ve run aground in river water and fear damaging my stern drive. How can I reset the Hook2 to make the depth reading more accurate?
    Thank you,
    Bill
