Key Differences Between Fenwick And Croix Rods

  • Different Features

Fenwick rods have ergonomic reel seat designs.

Because of the tapered construction with a much faster tip, you will get more action from them. They are more robust, lightweight, and highly durable.

Some rods represent next-generation performance.

The Powerlux 500 resin blank technology in some Fenwick rods disperses tension evenly, making them perfectly balanced under a load.

On the contrary, St. Croix fishing rods are manufactured by the latest manufacturing process. These are pretty lighter, stronger, and more responsive.

The integrated poly-curved technology eliminates all transitional points from the rod blank.

Besides, the advanced reinforcing technology makes them stronger without increasing weight. Plus, the precision-cut curved blank patterns aid in achieving better action and sensitivity.

  • Construction Material

Fenwick is the first fishing ro9d manufacturer to introduce graphite rods. Many of its rods have fiberglass blanks, and the rest are made from solid carbon.

Apart from that, they have stainless steel guides with aluminum oxide inserts. Plus, they have a premium cork handle with TAC trim.

On the other hand, St. Croix rods are made from high-strain and high-modulus carbon fiber. Because of this efficient material, these rods have power with less weight.

Besides, you will get TCS or PSS reel seat with frosted silver hoods and premium-grade cork handle.

  • Rod Length

Length is very crucial for a fishing rod. A length balanced with the weight and other factors can make a rod stand out from others. The shortest length Fenwick rod is 5’8”, and the longest length is 9’.

In contrast, the lowest length for St. Croix is 5,’ and the highest is 10’. So, since Fenwick rods are smaller than its counterpart, you can make accurate casts with them.

  • Rod Action

Rod action is another vital aspect you must consider before purchasing a rod.

Here, Fenwick rods provide 3 actions, and St. Croix provides 5 different actions.

However, you can have fast, moderate, and moderate fast options from Fenwick rods.

Conversely, the 5 actions of St. Croix rods are Slow, Moderate, Moderate Fast, Fast, and X-Fast. So, these rods have more actions than Fenwick.

But remember that some of these rods are slow, but no Fenwick rod is slow.

  • Weight

Weight is an essential element of a fishing rod. Lightweight rods are better, but they need balance to achieve a better result. Fenwick rods start from 3.7 oz., and the heaviest ones weigh 5.5 oz.

On the other hand, St. Croix rods’ weight starts from 1.9 oz. and goes up to 5.9 oz. Although some St. Croix rods are more lightweight than Fenwick, they are very basic rods with not-so-good action and delivery.

  • Warranty

Fenwick warranty depends on the rod series. The lower series rods come with a 1-year warranty. The mid-level ones have a 5-year warranty, and the upper-level series rods have a Limited Lifetime warranty.

Some St. Croix rod series have a 15-year transferable warranty, and the rest have 5 years of warranty.

  • Price

As you can see from the table, St. Croix rods are more expensive than Fenwick. Whichever brand you select, make sure you do not go for the least-priced ones. You won’t get anything good out of them.

Which Fishing Rod Will Be Best For You?

When choosing a fishing rod, first, you have to look at your expertise and what action you want to get from your rod. Having said that, I must say Fenwick rods are far better than St. Croix in reality.

They are more powerful, have faster actions, are pretty lightweight, and are more precise than its counterpart here. That’s the reason I suggest you go for Fenwick rods.

  1. You must work for Fenwick, lol. I honestly don’t think that many professional anglers would choose a Fenwick over a quality US made St. Croix, and I would know. Ridiculous article.

  2. Fenwick rods are not made in the USA. Fenwick may be an American company, but I’ve never seen an USA made Fenwick rod. St Croix rods ARE made in the USA, I believe Wisconsin, with the exception of the Triumph series which are made in Mexico.
